PokeResearchBot
You can now report research for Diablo Valley Pokémon GO.
View all research on Google Maps.
This tutorial will guide you through a few examples of how to use the PokeResearchBot.
!map
You can view all of today's reported research for Diablo Valley Pokémon GO on Google Maps.
When you join a Pokémon GO community, you'll have access to any field research task that has been reported by other members of your community.
Using the !map command gives you a link to see all of today's tasks on Google Maps in your browser.
In your browser you will see a map of every task reported since midnight.
To find specific tasks, click on the FILTER tab at the bottom of the map.
By default, all tasks are shown.
But you can choose one or more filters to narrow down the tasks you see.
You can choose any combination of rewards or Pokémon and only tasks with those rewards will be shown.
In this example, only the Pinap tasks are shown.
But there's an easier way than picking and choosing items and Pokémon manually...
Your community administrators have the ability to create groupings of important items and Pokémon.
These groupings can be published to community channels, and they can also be used as filters on the map.
win a raid
The research bot's map is awesome, but it only works when members of the community report the research tasks that they find using Pokémon GO.
Let's start reporting a task by simply typing the text of the field research that you've encountered.
Task: Win a raid
What is the reward?
🍬 1 Rare Candy
🍌 10 Nanab Berries
💛 3 Super Potions
❓ Other
❌ Cancel 🍬 1🍌 1💛 1❓ 1❌ 1
If the bot recognizes the task, then it will prompt you to select which of the possible rewards the task offers.
For now, let's click the Rare Candy reaction.
Task: Win a raid Reward: 1 Rare Candy
What is the task's location?
(You can copy the latitude/longitude coordinates from either link below and paste the coordinates or URL back here in Discord.)
After the bot knows the task and reward, it will prompt you for the task's location.
Discord does not have built-in capabilities for sending map locations, but the bot supports 3 methods:
Click "Copy Current Location" to copy your approximate location.
Click "Select From Map" to open a map where you can select any location and click a "Copy Location" button.
Open Google Maps in a browser or mobile app and manually copy the coordinates or page URL.
For any of these methods, paste the coordinates (or URL) back into Discord when you're done.
Task: Win a raid Reward: 1 Rare Candy
Upload an optional photo of the PokéStop or click 'Skip' to post the task without a photo.
⏩ Skip
❌ Cancel ⏩ 1❌ 1
The final step in reporting a task is optional.
You may upload a photo of the PokéStop that gave the task.
Field research task successfully reported:
Task: Win a raid Reward: 1 Rare Candy ID: raid-win-fb2d4ff1
After submitting a photo, the task will be reported, and possibly shared, to your community.
All tasks will be visible by your community, but some task rewards are determined to be more significant than others.
This is determined by your community moderators.
These tasks will be automatically published to a research tracking channel.
evolve a normal type pokemon
Let's see another example of reporting a new task.
In this example, we'll report a new task that we've never seen before.
Which of the following did you mean?
1️⃣ Evolve a Fire-type Pokémon
2️⃣ Evolve a Grass-type Pokémon
3️⃣ Evolve a Water-type Pokémon
❓ Other
❌ Cancel 1️⃣ 12️⃣ 13️⃣ 1❓ 1❌ 1
If the bot doesn't recognize the task, either because of a spelling mistake or because it is a new task, it will give you a few options based on the closest known tasks.
You don't have to worry about typing everything in perfectly, or including punctuation marks, or accent marks, or capitilization.
The Research Bot will do its best to determine a good match.
For this example, let's pretend that "Evolve a Normal-type Pokémon" is a new, unknown task, and click the Other reaction.
If the task is unknown by the bot (as in this example), or if the exact reward is unknown by the bot, then the bot will prompt you to choose a reward from the list of all possible rewards.
In this example, let's choose ultra balls by clicking on the Ultra Ball reaction.
Task: Evolve a Normal-type Pokémon Reward: Ultra Balls
The bot will prompt you for how many of the items will be rewarded.
Note that the bot will not prompt for single-type rewards such as Pokémon Encounters and TMs.
Let's go big and select 10 ultra balls.
Task: Evolve a Normal-type Pokémon Reward: 10 Ultra Balls
What is the task's location?
(You can copy the latitude/longitude coordinates from either link below and paste the coordinates or URL back here in Discord.)
Task: Evolve a Normal-type Pokémon Reward: 10 Ultra Balls
Upload an optional photo of the PokéStop or click 'Skip' to post the task without a photo.
⏩ Skip
❌ Cancel ⏩ 1❌ 1
Because uploading a PokéStop photo is optional, this time click the 'Skip' button to proceed without a photo.
If there are very few PokéStops in the location, it is usually not necessary to differentiate stops with a picture.
Field research task successfully reported:
Task: Evolve a Normal-type Pokémon Reward: 10 Ultra Balls ID: unknown-73de801a
Notice that the reported task is different than what you typed in at the beginning.
We started with "evolve a normal type pokemon" and the bot nicely formatted this as "Evolve a Normal-type Pokémon".
This uses the formatting conventions of Pokémon GO field research.
For our next and final example, we'll report a well known task that rewards a Pokémon Encounter.
win a gym battle
Field research task successfully reported:
Task: Win a Gym battle Reward: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle ID: gym-win-aa30f234
In this example, we've typed in a known task and chosen Pokémon Encounter as the reward.
The Research Bot does not prompt you for which exact Pokémon because:
It already knows which tasks reward which Pokémon, and
Sometimes a task can reward multiple Pokémon (as in the above example.)
!delete gym-win-aa30f234
Are you sure you want to delete the following task?
Task: Win a Gym battle Reward: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle
🗑 DELETE IT
❌ Cancel 🗑 1❌ 1
What happens when you make a mistake?
You can delete one of your tasks with the !delete command.
Whenever you report a task, the bot assigns a unique ID.
Copy that ID and use it with the !delete command.
The task 'gym-win-aa30f234' has been deleted.
After confirming the deletion, the bot removes the task from the map.
As we saw on the Google Map examples in the beginning, your community can create groupings of tasks based on task rewards.
You can use the research bot to report any task, regardless of reward, and the research bot will automatically decide which tasks to publish to your community's research channel(s).
And rest assured, whether or not your task is published to a channel, it will always be available on your community map.
So get out there, play Pokémon GO, report tasks, be the very best like no one ever was, and most importantly have fun!
